Description Bachmann 38-262 BR 20T Presflo Bulk Powder Wagon 'ICI Bulk Salt' Blue - OO Gauge When British Railways was formed in 1948, it inherited thousands of wagons from the big four. Whilst many of these wagons were perfectly suited for their intended purposes, BR identified a need for a purpose-built wagon to transport powered goods, such as cement, which previously were transported in bags in vans. So, in 1954 the first ‘Presflo’ (short for pressure flow) was built, which utilised the science of air fluidisation, a process which pumps air into the powder to prevent clumping and keep it loose, allowing the powder to be drained from the wagon efficiently. The design was very successful and lasted well into the 1980’s, finding use on different traffic flows up and down the country. This particular model depicts a ‘Presflo’ in use with ICI for the transportation of salt. This Bachmann Branchline ‘Presflo’ tooling suite comprehensively covers the history of these wagons, allowing us to produce a variety of different Presflo types. Our model features a wealth of separately fitted parts, including an end ladder, roof catwalk, handrails and underframe equipment.
